TRASH THE WEDDING DRESS TREND

Most bridal parties would go out of their way to ensure nothing happens to the wedding dress on the most important day in a brides’ life. But what if we told you that there is a trend where brides purposely „trash“ their wedding dress? Sounds unreal and a bit ridiculous, doesn’t it? But believe us, this trend is real and is gaining more popularity by the year.

WHAT IS “TRASH THE DRESS”?

It is a new wedding trend, meant to display a different style of photography than the traditional elegant wedding pictures we see almost every day. The couple would put on their wedding attire one more time after the wedding itself and take pictures in rather unconventional places such as abandoned buildings, factories, fields, waterfalls and beaches. During these photo sessions they would get their clothes dirty, wet or even destroy them. The end result – unique, intriguing and dynamic pictures of the wedding couple having the time of their lives.

WHERE DOES THE TREND COME FROM?

The trash the wedding dress trend originated in Las Vegas. John Michael Cooper is considered to be the first professional photographer in the world to stage a trash the dress photo session. He considered the traditional wedding photos to be boring and wanted to spice things up a bit!

WHY DO IT?

Couples that have a photo session such as this one want to finally let loose and relax after months of stressful wedding planning. They want to have fun and not worry about “preserving perfection” that the wedding dress is usually perceived to be. It is a perfect photo opportunity to throw away all the worries and to symbolically close one chapter of life and open another. Not to mention that the photos that come out of these photo sessions are truly unique and real conversation-starters.

So, if you are one of those brides who plans to hermetically seal the box your dress is in and pass it along to your daughters and granddaughters, this is not a trend for you. This is a trend for unconventional couples that want to take part in a dramatic and messy photo shoot, not worried about getting dirty or essentially ruining their precious wedding attire.
