Nina Roland ended up in weddings quite by accident, many years ago, as a second shooter for a wedding photography studio. She doesn’t even remember anymore, but it’s possible she didn’t even own a camera back then. What she does remember is on that day she fell in love with the energy of weddings. That same infatuation continues to this day, even though more than a decade has passed. She founded her company, Rice and Roses in 2018 after much deliberation and she have no regrets. Her favorite thing about weddings is that they can be big or small, party style or with a relaxed atmosphere, traditional or modern; and how they can be so different at the same time, but also so much alike.
Nina Roland describes her photography style as primarily unobtrusive, even a bit documentary, with an emphasis on spontaneous, honest moments without too much interference. She follows the same philosophy when processing photographs. The clutter in the room, the frowning kids, or the rain don’t bother her while taking wedding photos. She believes it’s all part of the charm of the wedding day. The preparations, and the slightly chaotic, but honest moments on the day are the things she loves to photograph the most. Nina loves a good wedding party, but the better the party, the fewer photos she takes that are suitable for the public eye, if you know what we mean (wink wink).
