VENUE OF THE WEEK: LAZARETI

“A place where the most beautiful encounters happen.”

Continuing on with our presentation of the most amazing Croatian wedding venues and in the historic theme, today we have a real gem for you. This particular venue was not built with the intention of hosting weddings and family gatherings, but had a very different historic purpose. Its history is long and colourful and, although it wasn’t originally meant to be a wedding venue, we believe it makes for a beautiful location for the celebration of the most important day in your lives.

This valuable space was recently refurbished to its full glory and is used for commercial purposes under the management of the company Dubrovačka baština d.o.o. (meaning Dubrovnik heritage). This way, the historic place that is Lazareti came closer to those for whom it should be intended – the people of Dubrovnik. In a short amount of time it became a very popular location for weddings and we are delighted to present it as our Venue of the Week.

Creative Neighbourhood of Dubrovnik

Dubrovački Lazareti or the Lazarettos of Dubrovnik are a group of interconnected buildings located just outside the Dubrovnik city walls, in the area called Ploče. This complex of buildings was once used as a quarantine station for the Republic of Ragusa. Particularly, in the 17th century, it was the largest commercial transit centre on the Adriatic and one of the best organized quarantines in the Mediterranean.

Today, the space of Lazareti comprises of ten naves and five terraces and serves multiple purposes. Art, entertainment, trade, congresses, catering, fashion, and other events of social interest are held here on a regular basis. This has become a place of outings and cultural gatherings not only for the residents of Dubrovnik but also for the many tourists visiting Dubrovnik each year. The naves and terraces are available for rent and make for a truly unique wedding location.
