WHITE SUMMER WEDDING IN DUBROVNIK: KATARINA & BRYAN

Hello everyone! We are beyond excited to share this all white summer wedding from Dubrovnik! A big thank you to the lovely Antonia from Something Blue Weddings for sharing her masterpieces from wedding season 2021 with us. We love seeing your work, keep it coming!

How did you two meet?

Katarina: We’re high school sweethearts! We met in high school and then went to the same university together (North Carolina State University). We’ve been together for 10 years this year.

Tell us about your engagement.

Katarina: We actually picked out the ring together! We were going to fly to Japan for a week in March 2020 and Bryan had planned to propose in front of Mt. Fuji but once COVID hit our plans were cancelled. We went hiking in June 2020 and Bryan had brought the ring along to show my parents but since the view in the mountains was beautiful that day so the timing seemed too perfect. He proposed on top of the mountain!

How did you choose your wedding date?

Katarina: We knew we wanted to do something in the summer and after talking to our awesome wedding planner, Antonia, we picked July 24th.

What made you choose Croatia as your wedding destination?

Katarina: I was born in Bosnia and have a lot of family in Croatia. We’ve visited Croatia many times over the years and we’ve always joked about getting married in Croatia. After COVID we weren’t sure if a wedding would even be possible so we decided that regardless of how the wedding would turn out at least we could get married in the most beautiful place we know: Croatia! We had family and friends coming to celebrate from 8 different countries so we truly couldn’t have done this without Antonia!

Was Dubrovnik your first choice for the wedding?

Katarina: We were torn between Split and Dubrovnik. Both felt like great options since they have airports for guests to easily fly in. We just fell in love with the look of the city walls and atmosphere in Dubrovnik.

How did you choose your wedding planner?

Katarina: We Googled a few wedding planners and then we met with them all over Zoom. We honestly chose based on who we felt we had the best connection with. Antonia was great from the start and listened to all our visions for the wedding and created something beyond anything we could have ever imagined. She addressed all of our concerns of having a destination wedding during a pandemic and reassured us throughout the entire wedding planning process.

Tell us something about your summer white wedding theme/ How did you choose the flowers, decorations, etc.?

Katarina: Our theme was relatively simple. We wanted lots of white flowers with simple greenery like eucalyptus. We really didn’t want much decoration since we felt like the backdrop of the walls of Dubrovnik and the Adriatic Sea at Villa Rose were too gorgeous to even compete with.

Tell us a fun anecdote from the wedding or favorite part of the wedding day/week.

Katarina: The best part of the wedding was seeing all our friends and family experience Croatia for the first time. Everyone’s favorite food by far was burek. We rented a huge house and had all our friends and family over in the days leading up to the wedding. We had family from Bosnia/Croatia/Serbia come over and teach everyone how to dance the kolo. We even had everyone dance the kolo at the wedding! It was so fun to see how quickly everyone picked it up and how much they loved doing it. Probably the coolest part of our wedding was when we pulled up next to the Tirena Galleon that was carrying our entire wedding party. We pulled up next to them in a speedboat and surprised everyone and they all went wild! We felt like celebrities with everyone cheering and running to wave to us. Bryan’s oma swears she felt the boat tilt sideways with how quickly everyone ran to one side to see us.
