“Intimate and private gatherings with a unique backdrop.”

We’ve said it before, and we will say it again: historic wedding venues are the most special type of venues there is! Nothing quite like writing your own love history in a place that is intertwined in history for many years before.

The long history of this venue dates back to the 15th century. It served as a monastery for most of its time until it was abandoned in the 1820s. New life was brought to it in 2006. when the renovations began. Today, this is the perfect place to host retreats, art, symposia, and many other types of cultural events, as well as beautiful weddings. Introducing LOPUD 1483 as Venue of the Week.

A sensitively restored property with a secluded atmosphere

Located on the northern tip of the island, the Franciscan monastery of Our Lady of the Cave has been overlooking Lopud for centuries. The monastery’s origins date to the year 1483, which is engraved on its facade next to the entrance door, giving LOPUD 1483 its name. Creative Director Francesca Thyssen-Bornemisza and her family have been sensitively restoring the property over the last 20 years. In order to preserve the historic origins of the building, they have been working closely with the Arhitektri studio from Zagreb to ensure that every aspect was carefully designed.

LOPUD 1483 offers a variety of locations and experiences that can be tailored to every taste, from the most intimate and private gatherings to high-profile events, as well as seminars, film festivals, concerts and, most importantly, weddings. The secluded atmosphere of the monastery, fortress, and garden provides a unique backdrop to any event. Meditate, debate, and relax, reconnect with nature in the secluded gardens, or unlock your creativity inspired by the masterful works of the Thyssen-Bornemisza Art Contemporary collection. For overnight stays, five unique bedrooms are available, decorated with stunning examples of contemporary artwork from their collection.
