WINTER ELOPEMENT ON KORČULA: JAŚ & SUZANNE
In uncertain times like these, when all of us are wondering what the future might hold, we all need a little bit of encouragement to keep our hopes and spirits up. Today, we would like to remind you all that love can survive and thrive even in times like these, thanks to couples like Jaś & Suzanne, who decided that no global pandemic will stand in the way of their dream wedding on Korčula island.
Over the course of the last decade, Croatia, and especially the Croatian islands, have become popular destinations for weddings of foreign couples. The majority of these weddings are held during the summer months, when both the weather and the Adriatic Sea are warm and welcoming. However, the cold January weather did not deter the plans of Jaś and Suzanne, who have just become one of the very few foreign couples to say ‘I do’ on the island of Korčula in the winter.
Jaś, from Poland, and Suzanne, originally from India and born in Canada, met while studying at Oxford in the United Kingdom. They lived together in London and Amsterdam, and after visiting Korčula last summer and falling in love with the island, they decided to get married there. Due to restrictions in regards to COVID-19 pandemic, organizing a large wedding was not possible, so they decided to have a winter elopement on Korčula.
“Even organizing an elopement at this time was rather difficult to do. Only witnesses and the registrar were present. The witnesses were their new friends from Korčula.” – the explanation came from Korčula Dream Weddings, a wedding planning agency that took care of the organization. They were also happy to add: “The couple will have a big, proper wedding when the situation allows, so the planning for that is actually underway. Jaś and Suzanne want to stay and live in Korčula if they can find a property that suits them. This is a great thing for our small town.”
